The "Devils Arthemetic," is about a young Jewish girl who doesn't quite understand her family's past and her roots. She finds Jewish Holidays very boring and traditional just like most teenagers. She also thinks they are unappreciative for she takes great pride in her religion and the hardship the Jews had to face. She is mysteriously transported to the past and ends up in a concentration camp. The concentration camp is where she experiences hardship, makes new friends and looses some of them at the sametime. However this is where she also learns of her family history and begins to understand her roots and all they had to go through.
They are the people who don't speak up when needed, they just sit around and just don't care because it's not there problem. But eventually it could become your problem. These people are bystanders, up-standers are the people who try to help, and make change or difference. Just like with the Nazis, they were tired of how they treated them and there friends and family. So they spoke for themselves. Some succeeded some didn't. If I was put into this situation I honestly would mind my own business. Because If I try to help and speak up. I could possibly make it worse for myself or my friends and family.
