Tunnels Blog post #6 (summary and predictions)

So far into my book Will and Chester are lost in Will's father tunnels, Its dark, wet, and very warm. Their flashlight is running out, and at the end of all hope they stumble across a glass rock. Will thinks its a sign from his father but, Chester thinks it's just a coincidence. Will attempts to move the rock but it doesn't succeed...for the moment. A door appears and creeks open and Will Chester go in and investigate. They find a second chamber filled with papers and books that seem to belong to his father. But at the end of the chapter they hear a noise like someone is in chamber, could it be William's father?   Who knows but I cant wait to read the next chapter!

What I predict what might happen in story is Will and Chester aren't going to find someone in the chamber it's not going to be Wills father its probably going to be some rat in the abandon chamber. I think this because the door they found wasn't touched or at least cracked. Also there were no foot prints in the dirt, it was trace of him at all. This is what I predict might happen in the next chapter in my book

Tunnels #5 (summary and reading strategies)

Blog #5

So far in my book "Tunnels" a fiction story written by Roderick Gordon & Brian Williams tells a story about a boy has a passion for digging which he shares with his father quicjkly takes a turn for the worse when the father goes missing. Will along with his best friend Chester are still looking for Wills father. Both Him and his mom are going through a really rough time dealing with the disappearance of Wills father. The disappearance of his dad has the mother in a panic and has taken its toll on her. They eventually had to admit her in the hospital due to the enormous stress.  She  is in the hospital due to the stress of losing the Wills father, and want's Will to bring him back no matter what the cost. Some of the miners say his father was last seen in the tunnels looking very suspicious. The miners say they might have found traces of his father like pieces hair and little clothing but none seem to match.

Strategies that I use to see the message of the story is theme, theme is a piece of writing that has it own unique way of expressing it. Another strategy you could use is Point of view. Point of view is were the author tells a story in 3rd person, 2nd person or 1st person. One last strategy is also use is Making connections. When you read other books or articles, you might find that you could relate to them in anyway. So say if you would like to write a story could use one of stories to relater too.

The Devil's Arithmetic Blog post #3 (Summary & Plot)

Blog #3

"The Devils Arithmetic"

The Devils Arithmetic is a fictional novel written by Jane Yolen and published in 1988. The book is  about young girl name Hannah Stern who lives in New York City. In 1942 Hannah gets shipped to  Poland in during World War II where she is sent to a death camp. While at the camp she learns some interesting things about her past and hoe important it is. During this time the people believe she was someone else was recovering from fever.

Some parts of the book that I found interesting was that Hannah knew of all of the terror  that village will face from the Nazi's. Hannah knew that they will endure pain and suffering as well as, starvation, forced labor and even death by execution. The climax build as she is constantly trying to stay alive at the camp.  What I enjoyed also in this book was when Hannah gave the weak and fragile boy bread this was so kind of her to do because she had not eaten in a very long time. She does this with help of a girl name Rivka. Unfortunately things don't get any better for them, several people where shot and killed. As time goes by, they draw closer to each other, there friends even surprise Gitl with a birthday party. One day as Hannah, Rivka, Esther and Shifre are working a guard overhears the conversation and takes everyone away except for Hannah and lead them to a gas chamber. Hannah was seen amongst the dead because she had taken the place of Rivka as she was transported back to Seder.

Holocaust Novel "The Devil's Arithmetic" #4 (summary and signpost)

Summary:

The Devil Arithmetic takes place in the middle of the holocaust a very dark era for our time. Hannah the main character try's to just survive in these horrible camps with the friends that she meets. In these camps there is little food, little to drink and a stressful environment day after day. It was pretty common to see the dead washed up around the camps from the very young to the elderly. In this book, the Nazi soldiers take Hannah and other Jews and mark them with number tattoo, as well as making them shave there heads. In Hannah's head, this means things can only get worse. However, Hannah is not shaken up as much as the others because she has already en-vision what will happen while in the camp. This knowledge makes Hannah a brave girl willing to help her family and friends even if it means risking her life.

Memory Moment:

During the drama with Hannah and Gitl, the author stopped from the fighting and made Gitl express herself. She started to talk about how she missed her family, even if they got into fights. She also said she heard they died years ago. I thought this was important because it showed a different side of Gitl and could possibly answer other question in the future. In conclusion this is one of those books that makes you look at things from a different perspective. I can see how a young teenage girl could relate to Hannah.

Holocaust Novel #1 "The Devil's Arthmetic"

#Blog 1

Summary:

"The Devil's Arithmetic" as I remembered when a person named Chaya or the badchan had sung a song for Hannah. But they did not know each other, he kept full eye contact on Hannah. This lead to questions like, Is Hannah secretly married? Is she hiding something? Who is this Mysterious man? I could not put down my book as the story progressed.

Conflicts:

I think of Shmuel as a brave and caring character because, he's always thinking of protecting Hannah, and he is not afraid to stand up to Nazi soldiers. Like for example when him and planning to sneak by the Nazis and ease drop on one of there conversations on Hannah. He was so angry he clenched his fist ready to swing for a punch but, Hannah stopped him from making a bad decision and getting in trouble.
